What to expect

Tours at Nimbus Farm introduce you to the wide variety of animals in our care, We show your our methodology and philosophy, and you can shadow our daily routine. Our motto is “Quality & Sustainability,” and we treat each animal with the upmost love, kindness, care and respect.

As part of your tour you will see various farm animals, plants, gardens and trees, depending on the time of year for your visit you may be introduced to chicks, or ducklings, and seasonal fruit and vegetables. You and your guests will be shown how we hand process fiber from raw to finished yarn and various products.

History

The tour covers an overview of the farm, and a discussion on our own geographic location in the Shenandoah Valley and Berryville. We review our farming practices, goals and role as environmental stewards and how we can protect our local wildlife and ecosystem.

Animals

We then visit our many animals, where we discus, in detail, their unique biology, individual needs, care requirements, and role on the farm.
Some of the animals you will learn about include: Alpacas, Chickens, Ducks, Maremma livestock guardian dogs, barn cats, and horses.
You will learn about local wildlife.

Gardens and Orchards

In addition to animals, Nimbus Farm has several fruit trees and gardens that will be stops along the tour. We will discus our produce, the methods and benefits of growing your own fruits and vegetables, local vegetation and the end products of our garden, i.e., pies, canned goods, baked goods, jelly, jam etc. We will also discus composting, recycling, pollination and local pollinators, and sustainability.
Depending on the season, during your tour you can sample some of our home grown fruits, vegetables and other assorted treats.

Picnic

A picnic is also an option at the end of the tour if you BYO items. (No glass or alcohol. NO FEEDING THE ANIMALS.)
Picnics will not be held in the alpacas pasture for their safety and yours, however you may chose one of our other scenic locations.
PLEASE take your trash with you, or use one of our available trash receptacles.

Safety

Safety is our number one priority and there are several guidelines that must be followed on the farm. There are inherent risks on a working farm and we take every precaution to ensure guest safety and satisfaction.
All rules must be followed, if you, or a member of your party, does not comply you will be asked to leave without a refund.
For your safety and the safety of the animals respect posted signs and verbal directions during your visit.
*You may not open gates or enter pastures.
*No touching/petting the livestock guardian dogs without permission of a staff member and a staff member present.
*No feeding the farm animals unless the food was given to you by a staff member.
*while alpacas are docile, majestic and inquisitive, they can also be unpredictable and may spit and kick. Alpacas do not like the top of their head being touched or reached for.
This is NOT a petting zoo, most of the alpacas are shy and while they may eat from your hand or investigate you, they are not “cuddly” and prefer to keep a comfortable distance.
